Non-Feeling Day
Yippee! Whoo hoo! Hurrah! Hurray!
I’m proud to proclaim it, “Non-Feeling Day!”
Now all stresses from your emotional life
Can for 24 hours dissolve with all strife.
You’re free to sit back and to dream what you wish
With no consequence: all your senses grayish.
Your mother could die, or your heart break in two,
And nothing would hit, strike, affect, or break through.
You might have a nightmare, or lose in a game,
Or do something “dreadful” to bring on new shame
And it wouldn’t phase you, not one little bit
For on “Non-Feeling Day” many things are omit.
Yes, it is all right when you’re needing a break
And just can’t afford one more single mistake,
To take a day off from your feelings and goals
And get things in order to maintain control.
Now and again it seems this is my case
So I discard feelings one day to make space…
For the stuff that is real, and will not go away
When I choose to announce that it’s “Non-Feeling Day”…
And I realize in full that although all along
I’ve been meant not to feel, that is all that’s been strong.
So what do I do when hypocrisy rules?
Just laugh at my able to make you all fools? -
Like me, when I try to believe I can fly
To my place that is nowhere, to try not to cry?
No, I’ve been wrong, and I understand now, that
Sometimes it’s okay, to not know just how
To accept that you’re you, with your feelings and all,
And that “Non-Feeling Day” is a type of withdrawal.
